Plastic free July

Random vegbox from a local butcher

As I was writing a newsletter for FoE Ruthin email list about the Plastic free July movement I started a collection of local shops and businesses that sell unpacked, loose stuff or has compostable packages.
This is my list by far but please let me know if I missed anything:

You can buy / order a large range of unpacked, loose food, toiletries and other household items in

Let’s not forget about the loose veges, fruits, glass bottled milk and juices at The Bakehouse and of course at local family butchers like

  • John Jones, Clwyd street, Ruthin
  • W&G Jones, 2 Well street, Ruthin
  • Clwyd Williams in Llandyrnog

Did you know that you can buy Marina’s traditional Lasagne in a refundable clay pot?
No plastic wrapping, using local meat, local eggs and locally made.
They can be found at John Jones the butcher in Ruthin, Siop y Pentre in LLanrhaeadr and The Little cheesemonger deli shop in Rhuddlan.
A great ready meal with homemade fresh pasta, using the authentic recipe of Bolognese sauce.

State of Distress has some cards without plastic packaging and also a range of welsh cards made locally in Bala that are all in compostable bags and another range of welsh cards that come with no bags.

And also look for the local Chilly Cow Ice Cream in compostable pots 😉
